Elizabeth II was born on April the 21st, 1926. She became Queen in 1953 (more than 50 years ago).
She has just celebrated her 80th birthday (= she is now 80 years old).

To celebrate her birthday, she organized a huge party : she invited 99 persons to a dinner in Buckingham Palace (London). The common point of the 99 guests : they were all born on April the 21st.

But the Queen's birthday will be officially celebrated on June the 17th, for climatic reasons (the weather is better !).

The famous ceremony called "TROOPING THE COLOURS" will take place. It's a big parade.

This ceremony is performed by the British army and regiments of the Commonwealth. It has been a tradition for centuries. It was first performed under the reign of Charles II (in the 17th century).
